American Driving Vacations
Few travelers know they can follow the footsteps of George Washington as he surveyed West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle beginning in 1748 at the age of 16. Fewer still know that members of the Washington family liked the area so much they settled here, occupying the same homes for as many as nine generations. Traveling America’s 4-day, 3-night package featuring the George Washington Heritage Trail National Scenic Byway, takes you through this same country, to the carefully preserved homes of Washington’s family members, their friends and through the hauntingly beautiful landscape they all came to love.
