Points of interest along your path include Devil's Kitchen, Walker Flat and the Nephi Mounds.

Travel Season/Dates

The Nebo Loop Scenic Byway is closed from October to the first of June each year.

Suggested Itinerary

Beginning in the town of Payson at the northern part of your journey, visit Peteetneet Academy. This historical school, built in 1901, is still used for classes in the fine arts and public meetings and events.

Head south of Payson to experience the beauty of two breathtaking views, Utah Lake Overlook, with its sights of the Utah Valley’s ranches, farms and communities far below and Mt. Nebo Overlook, which was shaped by wind, water and glacier. Take a look at the glacial cirques prominent on the mountain face before you.

Devil's Kitchen Geologic Area is one of the highlights of the Byway. Eroded layers of red-tinted river gravel and silt form spires and sharp ridges. Visitors viewing this unique feature will marvel at its brilliant contrast to the surrounding mountain greenery.

Stop again to enjoy a different view at Salt Creek Overlook. The mountain slopes away to the south and you can see the road ahead, the river and many mountain ridges.
