Suggested Itinerary

Your journey along the Kaibab Plateau-North Rim Parkway begins at Jacob Lake Junction, located at Highway Marker 579 or junction of Highway 67 and State Highway 89A. Begin at the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center, a U.S. Forest Service visitor center offering information, interpretive displays on the natural and cultural resources of the Plateau. The visitor center also offers books, videos, postcards and other interpretive sales items through the Public Lands Interpretive Association. Nearby points of interest include the Jacob Lake Inn, an historic lodge offering hotel accommodations, restaurant and gift shop; and Jacob Lake Campground, with family sites and group sites available.

At Highway Marker 580.3 (1 mile [1.6 km] south of the Jacob Lake Junction/Highway 67 and 89A), visit the historic Jacob Lake Fire Lookout Tower and learn how forest fires are detected. Views of the Grand Staircase are visible from the tower. The Tower is usually staffed
between 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and may be closed for two days during the week. Check in at the visitor center for current opening times.

From Jacob Lake, head south 22 miles (35.4 km) to the vehicle pull-off overlooking Demotte Park. Demotte Park is one of the largest meadows on the Kaibab Plateau. Visitors can be entertained by the wide array of wildlife such as deer, coyotes and numerous species of birds. Wildflower enthusiasts will enjoy the diversity and abundance in this meadow. One mile (1.6 km) south of this stop is the historic Kaibab Lodge. Rustic cabins and restaurant, gift shop, gas station and convenience store are available.

Just a quick 44 miles (71 km) south on Highway 67, the end of this scenic parkway leads to a spectacular view of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Several hiking trails are located at or near the rim. The North Rim Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Visitor information, interpretation and interpretive sale items available. The North Rim's Historic Lodge provides hotel accommodations, restaurant, mule rides and a gift shop.
